Fort Magnetic Pillow Couch First Impressions and Unboxing

After I finished editing the first impression I realized I didn’t mention much about the current Fort situation for us Kickstarter backers. It’s been quite the ride for us. The whole thing has been quite a mess. I could probably spend way too much time on all the details on why quite a few of us Kickstarter backers are upset, but I’ll try to make a quick summary of all of it.

The original estimated delivery date of the Fort was set to be July 2021, but here we are in October and only about 35% of us have received the Fort. And the 35% of us who have received the Fort paid an extra $99 fee for Freight Express.

You might wonder what this fee is and why we had to pay it. Well, shipping containers from China have skyrocketed across the board. So this affects every company that imports from China.

They claimed they weren’t making money on the heavily discounted Fort from Kickstarter. So if you didn’t pay the freight express charge you will still get your Fort or technically still get it, but you have to wait for Fort to make enough sales at the full $499 price to be able to have the funds.

That’s just the big picture as I don’t know how long it would take for me to get into all the details. But in short, Fort took the Kickstarter backer funds and pretty much used it all up in developing and producing the product, but now they’re stuck as they don’t have enough money to pay for the high shipping container costs.

They’ve now asked backers who want the Fort to pay an extra $99 to get it. If you don’t pay it you’ll have to wait until they make enough regular sales to get the funds to ship the Kickstarter backers.

One might think well you can always just wait and you’ll eventually get the Fort, but there’s also a possibility that the whole company will go under due to not making enough sales. Truly quite a crappy situation for all.

And to end this let’s do a quick calculation on how much I paid to get the Fort. $199 for the initial backing. $50 shipping, yes they already asked us to pay for shipping once. And $99 freight express, so this brings my total to $348.
