Dixie's Green Shore (aka Erin's Green Shore)

Описание к видео Dixie's Green Shore (aka Erin's Green Shore)

The Smithsonian's folklorist Stephen Winick told me this song is a variant of "Erin's Green Shore" or "Ireland's Green Shore," Roud 280 or Laws Q27. Only one version, collected by Ethel Moore from Robert Risinger in Norman, Oklahoma, uses "Dixie." Daniel O'Colon is actually Daniel O'Connell, "The Liberator," the political leader of the Irish Catholic majority in the first half of the 19th Century. Winick commented that O'Connell's eldest daughter, Ellen Fitzsimon (1805-1883), was a published poet, though he doesn't think she wrote "Erin's Green Shore." His two other daughters who lived to adulthood were Catherine (1808–1891) and Elizabeth (1810–1883).
