On Tisha B’Av, I set out on a moving journey from the Damascus Gate to the Western Wall, crossing the Old City of Jerusalem from north to south. This sacred day in the Jewish calendar commemorates the destruction of both the First and the Second Temples, as well as many other tragedies in Jewish history.
As I walked through the Muslim Quarter with its bustling markets, I could feel the contrast between everyday life and the deep sense of mourning in the Jewish Quarter. Passing by some of the Stations of the Via Dolorosa, I was reminded of the layers of history, faith, and sorrow that fill these ancient streets.
The Jewish Quarter on this day was wrapped in silence and grief, with people sitting on the ground reading the Book of Lamentations, mourning the loss of the Temple and praying for redemption. The Western Wall itself became the heart of this collective cry – a place where past destruction meets the hope of future restoration.
This journey was more than a walk across Jerusalem’s Old City. It was an encounter with faith, memory, and resilience – a reminder of the pain of loss, but also the strength of hope that endures across generations.
🙏 Join me on this walk, and take a moment to reflect and pray for peace, comfort, and healing in our world.
