One of the boldest special operations of World War II. In 1944, Fermor, a British SOE officer, along with fellow agent William Stanley Moss and members of the Cretan resistance, orchestrated an audacious plan to kidnap the German general from occupied Crete.

Disguised as German military police, they ambushed Kreipe’s car, seized him, and led him on a perilous journey across the island’s rugged mountains while evading thousands of German troops.

The mission, which ended with their dramatic escape by British submarine, remains a symbol of courage, cunning, and resistance.
