Swing dancing - fast feet and simple sequence (12 bar Blues)

Описание к видео Swing dancing - fast feet and simple sequence (12 bar Blues)

Phew... while the weather is cold it's time for the dancing to get hot! In this week's Level 2/Intermediate class we picked up the pace with some fast dancing.

First we taught a simple sequence that works really well for fast tempos to suit a 12 bar blues structure, and then learned a simplified footwork for our 8-beat that takes out all those tricky triple steps. Our sequence also uses 6-beat pump lands and Charleston which are also great ways to save energy.

Some tips for dancing fast are to simplify the footwork, reduce how far you travel by keeping your arms a little shorter than usual, and most of all try to relax! Start with moderate tempos then increase it little by little as you get used to it, and as always practice makes perfect.

The song we used is "The Jam" by the Eyal Milner Big Band which clocks in at a speedy 202BPM.

Here's the sequence which takes 2x phrases of 12 bar Blues music:

Phrase one:
8 count Swing out to open
8 count Swing out
8 Count Circle closed
6 count tuck to open
6 count pass by
6 count pass by
6 Count Circle to closed

Phrase two:
8 count Charleston
8 count Charleston
8 count skip up
8 count Charleston
8 count pop jump to open
8 count mega swivels
