Jugendstil (pronounced "YOU-gihnd-steal") is the term used in Germany at the end of the 19th century to describe the innovative and exciting design style known in France and America as Art Nouveau.

The term jugendstil, or, "youth-style," was coined from the title of a popular German magazine; Jugend published incredible works by young artists combining nature and fantasy, breaking tradition to create one of the most beautiful illustration styles of any century.

The new art book from Century Guild, Jugendstil 1896: Rare German Art Nouveau Illustrations by Thomas Negovan, features over seventy rare illustrations from the first issues of the German magazine 'Jugend', published in the Spring of 1896.
