Kamala Das aka Kamala Surayya aka Madhavikutty wrote poems of love, its betrayal, and the consequent anguish. She was most popular for her tell-all, exclusive and explicit autobiography.

She was comfortable with her sexuality and made no apologies for who she was. She was also a widely read columnist and wrote on diverse topics including women’s issues, child care, politics etc.

All her poems and stories seem incredible personal. Every word feels like a stare into her soul.
