Albany’s forgotten ghetto area is full of unmaintained buildings and is swarming with shady individuals. This capital city will take your breath away but unfortunately, it’s because it smells like absolute garbage. The truth of the matter is...this city stinks.

1:06 – Baton Rouge
Don’t let the romance of being nestled on the Mississippi River fool you. The city that fails to offer a decent education to its citizens also fails to properly take care of its tourists too. In addition to its bad education, Baton Rouge has also been rated as one of America’s unsafest cities. If you’re smart, don’t go.

1:47 – Hartford
The economy of Hartford is an old story too, unfortunately. Real estate, rent, and lodging are ridiculously overpriced. The median household income is meager yet the cost of living is high which is why the city rates as the third least affordable capital city in the nation. If you’re headed to Hartford, be sure to take your life savings. You’ll need it.

Residents of the city reportedly spend an average of $928 per year to foot the bill for car repairs caused by the poor condition of the roads. If you’re taking a road trip to Oklahoma City, watch out. You may be in for a bumpy ride!

While sleepy little towns can be quaint and charming, Carson City isn’t. We struggled to find anything about it...aside from how boring it is. Overshadowed by Las Vegas, Reno, and every other city in the state, you have to wonder why it’s the chosen city to host the capitol building. If you ever intend to go to Carson City, consider this your wake-up call!

The extremely high pollen count that’s trapped in the town by warm, dry weather makes it difficult to enjoy the attractions like the remnants of the Gold Rush era with its wagon rides and wooden sidewalks. If you’re not fond of places where the people are stuffy (literally!), steer clear of Sacramento.

Size matters. That makes Montpelier, Vermont eligible for our Worst Capital Cities list. If you go to tour the capitol building, that’s all you’ll be doing because basically, the town isn’t large enough to house much more. With less than 8,000 residents, Montpelier consists of a mere 10.3 square miles and is the smallest capital city in the United States.

5:30 – Bismarck
If you are getting cold feet just thinking of visiting Bismarck, rightly so. With temperatures that frequently dip down below zero during the winter months and peak summer weather hovering no higher than 80 degrees on average, Bismarck is not an easy city to warm up to. And that...is the cold, hard truth!

If you’re being lured in the direction of Augusta, take it from us - just skip the trip and order up a plate of trout at your favorite local fish place instead.

The crimes that are most common in Trenton are murder, robbery, and assault. Still want to visit this terrible town? Due to its high crime rate, Trenton has the reputation of being the third most dangerous city in the United States.
