‘The Ballad Of Black Velvet’ (Rafferty & McKay)

Hi folks, over the years, I’ve penned my fair share of ‘ballads’ - in the slow, sentimental, romantic sense of the word.

However, I’ve always wanted to write the other type of ballad… the kind that narrates a story, a la Bob Dylan (Thin Man), Johnny Cash (Ira Hayes), Beatles (John and Yoko), Prince (Dorothy Parker), Byrds (Easy Rider)… you get my drift!

Step forward my ‘partner in rhyme’ Kevin McKay who sent me a lyric that I initially thought was based on a true story, but turned out to be a fictional tale from Kev’s imagination!

When I asked him what inspired him to write this one, he said… “Never stand in the way of a passionate Irish boy, else a rampage could ensue! Especially when there’s drink involved!” 😂🍺

So without further ado, it gives me great pleasure to unveil our latest ‘Rafferty & McKay’ composition.
