SAMA tells the story of Hiba, a Syrian who fled to Lebanon, and Sabine, a young woman from the Lebanese town of Bar Elias. What brings them together is their shared love for climbing – a passion they discovered through ClimbAID’s project in the Bekaa Valley.

But SAMA is about more than just climbing. It’s about four young people whose lives are shaped by displacement and exclusion — and their search for identity, friendship, and hope.

Filmed in 2022 and 2023 amidst economic collapse, bread shortages, and deportations, SAMA captures a side of Lebanon not often seen: the raw beauty of the Bekaa Valley and the spirit and resilience of the people who live there.

At a time when the Middle East is so often portrayed through war and despair, SAMA conveys a message of peace — showing how climbing can build trust, foster belonging, and bring people from different backgrounds together.
