Splatting is designed to give you a different way of passing parameters to a command. Don begins by outlining the traditional method of typing a command name, breaking down each section of the parameters and their values, then contrasts that with how you can use splatting to streamline the process. There are two primary steps to splatting, and he’ll show you how to execute each in turn.

The concept of setting parameter defaults is a new feature in PowerShell version 3, and it’s contained in a variable called “PS default parameter values.” You’ll see the basic syntax required to fill in a command that can also contain wildcards, and Don will show you how to do this with multiple commands simultaneously.
