On February 6, 2018, Rhinelander police launched an investigation into a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by a wife. They had received an anonymous tip from a man who claimed his colleague had approached him to help find someone to kill her husband. The urgency of the threat prompted authorities to craft a plan to apprehend her by gathering concrete evidence. To do so, they set up a sting operation—sending an undercover officer posing as a hitman.
