This world fascinates me because I never knew it existed. All the people in these pictures are dead now.
The photos are either 100 years old or at best 77 young…and in between.

The communists, when they took over Romania, they destroyed everything that was connecting the country to its recent past, especially the one in between the 2 World Wars, because that was the time when art and literature in that country peaked and the most interesting buildings from architectural point of you were built.
The communist propaganda was implementing the belief that photography did not exist in Romania prior to their dictatorship, because people could not afford a photographer, the populace was “too exploited by the bourgeoisie” to the point that they could not afford to take a single photo of their kids and their weddings or whatever.
That’s why when this archive surfaced and we all learned that it was hidden by the owner on purpose, in order to save some valuable historical visual documents, no more no less than 9000 glass plates (the equivalent of negative films today) I was in shock to see that actually the official version of the dictatorship wasn’t true, it was just propaganda… a bunch of lies.
Imagine how many of such proofs the communists must have destroyed in order to be able to brainwash the population into believing their side of the story, if only ONE photographer had 9000 photo-negatives stashed away, imagine how many there must’ve been throughout the country and how many were destroyed on purpose…
