Mt. Wittenberg is one of the Catskill 3500 Club peaks, and this hike pushed me more than any of my recent climbs in Northern NJ (Tammany, Pyramid Mountain, Bearfort Ridge). Same mileage as my longer hikes but with nearly 1000 more feet of elevation gain.

The route includes the trailhead at Woodland Valley, early outlooks, primitive campsites, the steep ascent, frost-covered sections, meeting a ranger on the trail, and the surreal summit overlook that makes Wittenberg one of the best peaks in the Catskills.
