Welcome to another edition of @ThePaceReport featuring pianist and composer Victor Gould.

At 17 years old pianist Victor Gould was hired by NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison professionally. The Los Angeles native has been one of the few pianists that's built a career playing and backing some of jazz music's heavy hitters including JD Allen, Etienne Charles, Esperanza Spaulding, Terence Blanchard, Branford Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Jazzmeia Horn, and Jeremy Pelt.

Victor was the first recipient of the Herbie Hancock Presidential Scholarship at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and attended the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at Loyola University and graduated with a Masters in Music Education

As a leader Victor's current album as a leader "In Our Time" pays tribute to two of his mentors, drummer Ralph Peterson and trumpeter Wallace Roney, who he had to honor to play and record with

Recently Victor played the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center with his trio featuring Tamir Shmerling on bass and Mark Whitfield Jr. on drums. We sat down to discuss his latest recording and reflect on the legacy of his mentors Wallace Roney and Ralph Peterson. Also, reflects on the first time he saw pianists Oscar Peterson and Keith Jarrett perform.
