Wrought Iron Wall Decoration

KIM: Hey I’m Kim Miles from Home Made Simple on OWN, and today I’m going to show you a super cool art project that utilizes a wire brush and some spray paint.

Here’s the concept...your walls are really empty, they need a little love. I want to add a little bit of decoration that is just more about pattern than anything else. And I love the look of wrought iron wall hanging. So I have found a way for us to transform a rubber wrought iron doormat into a wall art piece that looks like the real thing.

You start with a rubber doormat and then you spray paint it. I want you to take the spray paint and just hit this section right here. Work section by section; because the key to this is that the paint has to be wet when we’re scrapping it off. If we let it dry it’s really hard to get it up, and we don’t get that great kind of flaked look.

Our wrought iron wall art is really going to add a great layer to the space. It’s going to add a little bit of the vintage vibe… Perfect. You spray it with white spray paint, and then you immediately come in and you scrub off some of that paint. You see how the paint goes from being new and shinny and starts to get aged? You, you need to the muscles in there.

TONI: (Laughs)

KIM: I want you to get in there! Yes! I love working with Toni on the wrought iron wall art project because it’s one of those super simple projects, and I can see her gaining confidence. And I know she’s going to take this little spark of an idea, and it’s going to empower her to do more in her house. What do you think?

TONI: I think it’s good!

KIM: Cool, well done.
