Novak Djokovic has admitted that traveling to Australia for the Open still brings back feelings of "trauma.Three years ago the Serbian star was detained upon arrival in Melbourne for failing to meet the country’s COVID-19 vaccination entry requirements. During this ordeal Djokovic spent time in a quarantine hotel on two separate occasions before being deported just before the tournament began.Since then Djokovic has returned to Australia even claiming victory at the 2023 Australian Open and making it to the semi-finals last year. Yet the experience has left a lasting impact on him. Speaking to the Herald Sun the world No. 7 shared his lingering unease: “I still feel traces of trauma when passing through passport control and immigration. There’s always a moment where I wonder if someone might stop me or detain me again. It’s a feeling I can’t shake.
