If you're found a lump in your testicle you're worried if it could be testicular cancer. OtherTesticular lumps include: varicocele, epididymal cysts, and you also need to check for pain, and swelling that might indicate infection such as epididymitis, orchitis, as well as testicular torsion.
Testicular cancer - rare, 1 in 250 men, common between age 14 to 45, if caught early, its curable
suspect if lump is hard, swelling or fluid in scrotum, tender testicle, back pain, breast enlargement
Hydrocoele - fluid in the scrotum, mostly unknown cause and can go on its own, can be due to virus, injury, tumours, take some fluid out and send it for testing
Testicular Torsion - emergency, when the the cord that attaches to the testicle twists on itself and causes sudden pain, if not done within 6hrs, testicle will die
Varicocoele - large veins leading to the testicle, and feels like bag of worms, can affect fertility and cause low sperm production
Infection - Epididymitis - swelling, pain, of the tube due to infection (chlamydia, gonorrhea, UTIs), treated with antibiotics,
undescended testicle - lodged in lower abdomen, common in premature, lead to fertility problems and risk of testicular cancer
epididymal cyst – a lump caused by a collection of fluid in the epididymis, can present as dull ache, pea-sized lump
How to self examine your testicle
1. Examine each testicle. Using both hands, place your index and middle fingers under the testicle and your thumbs on top. should feel smooth and firm but not hard
2. Gently roll the testicle between your thumbs and fingers. Look and feel for any changes to your testicle. These could include hard lumps, smooth rounded bumps, or new changes in the size, shape or consistency of the testicle.
A testicular lump does not mean you have to see the Dr straight away - most lumps are testicular cysts, wait 2 to 4 weeks, just continue to monitor for changes, other scrotal lumps can be scar tissue due to trauma
if you are very concerned or not sure , then see the Dr who can do the examination for you
