Dizzy the Adventurer is an adventure game which originated from the previous Dizzy title, “Dizzy – Prince of the Yolkfolk”. Created by Philip and Andrew Oliver (Dizzy Enterprises) and published by Codemasters/Camerica for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Sega Master System (as a ROM) and Sega Game Gear in January 1993.

Story:
Dizzy and Daisy were walking through the Enchanted Forest looking for Pogie the Fluffle. They then stumble across a concealed entrance to Zaks’ old CastleDizzy and Daisy both looked inside, unaware that they were being spied upon. In an attempt to catch Dizzy, The evil wizard Zaks cast a spell over an old spinning wheel.

Unfortunately, it was Daisy who came upon the spinning wheel first. Curious that it was turning, she accidentally pricked herself and fell instantly into an endless, magical sleep. Before he knew what happened, Dizzy was seized by Boris the Troll and shut in a dark prison!

Is there any way out for Dizzy?
Can he find and awaken Daisy?
The answers lie with you!

Trivia:
The NES version was only available on the controversial “Aladdin Deck Enhancer”. The Sega Game Gear version was released as part of “The Excellent Dizzy Collection” compilation.

The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version of “The Excellent Dizzy Collection” which included this game, was planned but never released. Most likely due to the Oliver Twins leaving Codemasters in 1994.
In 2011, The Dizzy Fansite released video footage of the Mega Drive version. The video showed that the game was unfinished with many graphics and other elements missing.

In October 2020, the NES version was re-released as part of a compilation called “The Oliver Twins Collection” for the Evercade.

On the 4th April 2021, a PC remake of the game was released by Team Yolkfolk. It was made using Clickteam Fusion and uses the graphics and music from the unreleased Sega Mega Drive version.

Even though Dizzy the Adventurer has similarities to Prince of the Yolkfolk, there were a number of differences. You start the game with 3 lives and can carry up to 3 items.
There is no health bar on this game which meant players needed to be careful while exploring. There are also 50 magic stars to collect in order to break the spell from the spinning wheel.

Other members of the Yolkfolk make appearances in the game, some provide Dizzy with hints. One of the other features included a mushroom that Dizzy can bounce up, like in the first game. Another was “A Large Round Hole” which previously appeared in Fantasy World. Picking up the hole results in all the items Dizzy is carrying being dropped automatically.
