Confused about the difference between roller skates and rollerblades? Competitive in-line skater Tim Phang explains the difference in this video.

Hi, I'm Tim Phang. I'm 23 years old. I've been skating for about 12 years. I'm from Arlington, Virginia which is right outside of Washington, D.C. I'm now sponsored by Universal Skate Design, and I'm going to be talking to you about rollerblading. The main difference between roller skates and roller blades is the configuration of the wheels, so on roller skates the wheels are generally setup sort of like a car, and you have two wheels in the front and two wheels in the back. On Rollerblades or in line skates the wheels are setup in lines so offer a wheel often are within one item which is called the frame. You also notice that on Rollerblades uh are these particular Rollerblades there is, there are no blades. Roller skates generally have a brake in the front uh some roller blades have the brake at the back, since these are aggressive skates there is no brake there is also there is a large gap between the center two wheels which allows you to grind uh a grove in the side of the boot and also a wider sole area. Aggressive skates also have usually a flexible cuff to allow you to bend side to side, forward and backward, they also tend to hug your ankle pretty tight but on low cut uh that gives you the flexibility that you need when you are grinding or jumping around.
