From Italy to Normandy - road trip adventures begin (pt.1) Dijon, Chablis, Giverny, Rouen

Kick off our road trip adventure in Dijon, France—a city rich in history and famous for its mustard! Our first stop is the historic city center, where we explore the half-timbered houses dating back to the 15th century. Dijon’s preserved medieval architecture, including charming buildings and intricate stonework, reflects both the city’s historical heritage and Alsatian influence. We take a stroll along Rue de la Liberté, lined with shops offering everything from local antiques to artisanal foods, and pay a visit to La Maison Maille, where we sample Dijon’s signature mustards, including unique blends like blackcurrant and white truffle-parmesan.

After Dijon, we venture into the Burgundy countryside, heading towards Chablis for a scenic nature walk. This peaceful, green region is known for its crisp white wines, providing a perfect opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature and take a break from city exploration.

Our next highlight is Giverny, home of the iconic painter Claude Monet. We visit his house and gardens, whose lily ponds and flower beds inspired many of his masterpieces. This stop offers a glimpse into the world of one of the founders of French Impressionism and a peaceful retreat into his carefully crafted landscapes.

Finally, we journey to Rouen, Normandy’s historic capital. Here, we explore Rouen Cathedral—famously painted by Monet—and the Church of Saint Joan of Arc, dedicated to the legendary French heroine. The city’s medieval charm is enhanced by half-timbered houses, some even marked with intricate skull carvings, symbolizing Rouen’s connection to centuries past.
