The Babys - A Piece of The Action (Guitar Cover)

The Song:
“A Piece of The Action" is a song written by Mike Japp and Chas Sandford and recorded by the group The Baby’s on their second studio album titled Broken Heart and released in September 1977. This continues my history of covering songs by The Babys and one of my favorite guitar players Wally Stocker. Interestingly I thought I live in a major market in Atlanta I have never gotten to see the Baby’s live though I have seen John Waite solo.

Written in the key of Dm/F for those not into theory (Dm, F, G, C, Bb, Am, Gm) and the tune revolves around the D minor, F, G phrase throughout. Wally follows the keyboards and bass line on this tune, there’s a short guitar solo which is the 5th position of the major scale or the relative minor in this case (Dm), and on the outro the solo lines are part of the major scale in F.

The Video:
My methodology is recording all the guitar tracks in Pre Sonus-Studio One, editing. mixing and mastering in the tool. I then shoot the video on my iPhone (with the lesser quality audio), export that footage to my desktop and into DaVinci Resolve where I edit the video and bring in the mixdown version that I recorded in Studio One sync the new audio and delete the video’s original audio.

The Equipment:
The equipment I used on this video was a Gibson Custom Shop 1960 RI Les Paul R0 (Cherry Sunburst) played through a Fractal Audio FXIII directly into PreSonus Studio One.
