This video illustrates how to use SOLIDWORKS Treehouse in conjunction with the Skeleton Sketch Part method of large assembly modelling to quickly generate a complex assembly and part structure to govern and manage overall design changes. The Skeleton Sketch Part method is a type of top-down modelling technique where master sketches that layout component positions and dimensions are stored in a part rather than in an assembly-level sketch that are then derived into other parts and subassemblies. This method is advantageous in situations where you want to make changes to part geometry independent of modifying the assemblies or subassemblies it was used in, such as when using PDM systems where only one person can have a document checked out at a time. While Treehouse isn’t strictly required to create this type of assembly structure, the graphical interface of just dragging and dropping new or reused parts and assemblies into place is far easier than manually inserting and copying parts in SOLIDWORKS itself. Quick Tip presented by Miguel de Villa of GoEngineer.
