Writer Bhaichand Patel speaks to Rupleena Bose about his recent novel, Across the River, which is an engaging exploration of the tension between tradition and modernity, and an equally sensitive examination of both the rigidity and the fragility of religious prejudice.

Rupleena Bose works as an Associate Professor of English at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi. Her doctorate is on the urban new-wave Bangla Music of the Nineties. She has written several screenplays, including a non-fiction film, You Don’t Belong, that won a National Film Award. Summer of Then is her debut novel, spanning a decade of the personal and political, moving between a woman’s interiority, and the nation outside.
