Story:
Once upon a time, in the ancient kingdom of Phrygia, there lived a wealthy Midas.
He possessed everything a man could desire: a grand castle, abundant riches, , and a beautiful
daughter named Marigold. However, Midas was consumed by greed, with his greatest obsession being gold.
He spent his days counting his coins and even adorned himself with golden treasures.
One fateful day, Dionysus, the god of wine and revelry, passed through Phrygia.
His companion, a satyr named Silenus, became lost and sought refuge in Midas’s rose gardens.
Upon discovering Silenus, the king graciously invited him to stay at his palace. In gratitude
for Midas’s kindness, Dionysus offered to grant him any wish.
Midas pondered deeply. Finally, he declared, "I wish that everything I touch turns to gold."
Dionysus cautioned him to reconsider, but Midas remained steadfast. Granting his wish, the god
ensured that from that day forward, everything Midas touched transformed into shimmering gold.
The following morning, King Midas awoke with eager anticipation, wondering if his wish had indeed
come true. As he extended his arm, the small table he touched instantly transformed into solid gold.
Overwhelmed with joy, Midas continued to touch various objects in his palace: a chair, the carpet,
the door—each turning to shimmering gold at his fingertips.
But soon, the curse took a darker turn. When he sat at the table for breakfast, without even thinking,
he ate a grape, which also turned into gold! The same thing happened with a slice of bread and a glass
of water. Suddenly, fear gripped him. Tears filled his eyes, and at that moment, his beloved daughter,
Marigold, entered the room. When he hugged her, she transformed into a lifeless golden statue.
Desperate and fearful, he raised his arms and prayed to Dionysus to lift this curse from him.
The god instructed Midas to wash his hands in the river Pactolus. As soon as he did, the curse vanished
and his golden touch disappeared. Overwhelmed with happiness, Midas hugged his daughter and resolved
to share his great fortune with his people. From that day forward, Midas became a better person,
showing generosity and gratitude for all the blessings in his life.
