Mary2bay Hervey Bay Rail Trail - Stockland to Walligan (Stockyard Creek)

An easy cruise (av 20kmh) on this part of the rail trail leading out of Hervey bay, starting from just south of Stockland shopping centre. The section between Chapel Rd and Piggford Ln doesn't exist yet so you need to ride a short distance down Maryborough Harvey Bay Rd and turn right into Piggford Ln before picking up the next section of trail. I had hoped to ride all the way through to Walliebum, if not all the way to Maryborough, but I stopped and turned around at Walligan (Stockyard Creek), also marked as Moonys Camp on the trail map. The little billabong there was apparently a stop for the old steam engines to refill their boilers back in the day. Unfortunately, at this point I found multiple trails running in all directions with no signs, and big bog holes churned up by 4x4s and trail bikes. I investigated one trail to the left, only to find it narrowed to nothing a short distance later, and the one straight ahead that I thought would take me through was a little too muddy. While it doesn't look too bad on camera, I decided it was best to turn around and ride back the way I came rather than risk another dead end or face-planting into the mud out in the middle of nowhere.

Note: The BBSHD ebike kit I'm using on this fat bike has considerably more power than is needed for this sort of ride, but keeping it in level 1 makes it easy to maintain a speed of 20kmh or so, and gives me range of 60-100km with a 13ah battery. I had only used 10% of my battery getting to this point so I cranked it up to level 5 for an average 30kmh speed for the return journey, and still had more than 50% remaining at the end.
