PREVIEW: The 17th edition of the IPL will kick off on March 23, 2024, with 10 teams aiming for the coveted trophy. The IPL 2024 promises to be an exciting and unpredictable season, with new players, teams, and challenges.

The IPL 2024 will see the impact of new players and team dynamics and the significance of home-ground advantage and team strategies. The IPL 2024 auction, which was held in Dubai on December 19, 2023, saw some of the biggest deals and bids in the history of the IPL, with seven of Australia’s ODI World Cup winning squad entering the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore.

Some notable signings were: Mitchell Starc to Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 crore (USD 3.3 million), setting the record for the most expensive player in the IPL.

Pat Cummins to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.5 crore (USD 2.5 million), becoming the second-most expensive player in the IPL.

Travis Head to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 6.8 crore (USD 800.000).

Rachin Ravindra to Chennai Super Kings for INR 1.8 crore (USD 240,000).

These new players will add to the quality and depth of the teams and create some interesting combinations and partnerships. For example, Starc and Cummins will form a pace duo for their respective teams, Head and Ravindra will provide some solid batting and spin options for SRH and CSK, and Josh Inglis and Steven Smith will strengthen the batting line-up of Lucknow Super Giants.

The IPL 2024 will feature 10 teams, with two new franchises joining the existing eight. The teams are:

Gujarat Titans (GT), one of the new franchises and the runners-up of IPL 2023. The prolific Shubman Gill leads GT and has a strong and experienced squad.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the constant underachievers and the three-time finalists of the IPL. RCB is led by the world’s best batsman Virat Kohli, and has a star-studded and powerful squad.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the two-time champions will be looking to do better this season.

Rajasthan Royals (RR), who ended up as the runners-up in the IPL 2022 season would like to repeat a similar campaign.

Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) would be looking to have a better season this year.
