How to Choose a Men's Conditioner

If your hair needs more moisture than shampoo alone can give, choose the right conditioner to get the job done.

Step 1: Use moisturizing conditioner
Use a moisturizing conditioner if you have dry, coarse, curly, or processed hair. For extremely dry hair, pick up a moisturizer that contains essential fatty acids or EFAs.

Step 2: Try a volumizing conditioner
Try a volumizing conditioner if you have limp, fine, thinning, or damaged hair. These conditioners coat the strand with protein, making it appear thicker, while filling in pieces of damaged cuticles.

Step 3: Choose a normal conditioner
Choose a conditioner for normal hair if your hair and scalp aren't overly dry or oily.

Some conditioners cause build-up, so change the brand of conditioner every month.

Step 4: Treat oily hair
Treat an oily scalp with a conditioner formulated for oily hair. It won't leave hair weighed down but will impart a healthy sheen.

Step 5: Go for a leave-in
Go for a leave-in conditioner if you want shiny, tangle-free, and manageable strands. Outdoor types can choose one with a sunscreen, which offers added sun protection.

Step 6: Avoid two-in-ones
Avoid the lure of products that contain both shampoo and conditioner in one. Your hair will be cleaner and more conditioned using separate products.
