South Korea Declares Martial Law LIVE: Troops Enter Parliament As Protesters Chant "No Martial Law"

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday, vowing to eliminate “anti-state” forces as he struggles against an opposition that controls the country’s parliament and that he accuses of sympathising with communist North Korea. Soon after, South Korea’s opposition party members gathered at the country's parliament building and protesters chanted "no martial law" as troops entered parliament. There were unconfirmed reports of helicopter landing on the roof of South Korean parliament and tanks on the streets of Seoul. Reports say those who violate 'martial law' can be arrested without warrant. While lawmakers in the country are voting to lift martial law decree, South Korean Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun is calling on the military to boost vigilance, the reports said. Meanwhile, the White House said it is closely monitoring the situation in South Korea.
