Exploring 2 major forts of Goa: Chapora Fort and Aguada Fort.

Chapora Fort is located in Bardez and 21 km from Panjim and 11 km from Mapusa.
Chapora fort rises high above the Chapora River. It is90 meters above sea level and built using red laterite stones.
This massive fort was constructed by the king of Bijapur, Adil Shah. This is one reason why it has been named Shahpura, which means the 'town of Shah'. The Chapora Fort is one of the prime attractions on Goa.
The fort has steep slopes on all sides and stands on a prominent position that commands views in all directions.
The fort gives a spectacular view of the Vagator and the Morjim beach.
The Fort of Chapora got popularized by the movie Dil Chahta Hai and is now a prime attraction of Goa.

Aguada fort is

The Fort Aguada is open all days of the week from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm
Built by Portuguese during 1612 on the shore of the Mandovi River to guard against the Dutch and the Marathas.
Built of durable laterite stone, fort wall is 5 meters high and 1.3 meters thick
Aguada fort gets its name from a freshwater spring within the fort which provided water supply to the ships that used to stop by.
Aguda (Water) in Portuguese language.

A four-story lighthouse, erected in 1864 is the oldest of its kind in Asia.
Equipped with ammunition rooms and barracks, the fort had 79 cannons and had the capacity of storing 2,376,000 gallons of water, one of the biggest freshwater storage of the time in the whole of Asia.
