Authentic leadership is still a relatively new and under-researched topic. It first came to wide attention with the 2006 best seller, ‘Why Should Anyone be Led by You’, by British academics, Rob Goffee and Gareth Jones. But it goes back way further than that.

Authentic leaders are characterized by two things above all else:
1. they understand themselves - they know who they are, what they believe in, their values, and their goals.
2. they act in a way that is wholly consistent with their true selves. The person we see in the public arena is a true representation of the real person inside.

How to Become an Authentic Leader
- Learn about yourself
- Accept yourself
- Understand your motivations
- Accept other people
- Seek out feedback
- Open yourself to learning from your mistakes
- Be thoughtful
- Understand your leadership style
- Adopt a non-hostile sense of humor.
- Express your emotions freely and clearly

Authenticity is a matter of character.
