Impacts of the Child Welfare System on Indigenous Perinatal Health

Session Description: Participants will come to understand historical and contemporary approaches to Indigenous child apprehension and how this has impacted and shaped the current landscape of Indigenous Child Welfare Systems in Canada. Join Aunties on the Road as they share testimonies of how their work has made a positive impact in the lives of families and clients experiencing realities of the Child Welfare System.


Presenters: Aunties on the Road, Indigenous Full Spectrum Doula Collective
Aunties on the Road Indigenous Full Spectrum Doula Collective is a grassroots doula collective based out of Ottawa which works to educate and empower Indigenous Urban Youth in the Ottawa area around Indigenous Reproductive and family care. The Aunties provide free, full spectrum doula services to Indigenous youth and their families for the duration of their pregnancy and up to 6 months postpartum, as well as other services including loss and grief care, transportation to appointments and education and training workshops around perinatal and reproductive health. Aunties on the Road also provide Indigenous Full Spectrum Doula training for communities across Ontario and Quebec.
