Fuchs Dystrophy and Corneal Transplants

Описание к видео Fuchs Dystrophy and Corneal Transplants

The cornea is the clear structure in the front of the eye. When the back layer of the cornea, the endothelium, is not working, the cornea fills up with fluid. This leads to corneal edema and decreased vision. The most common condition of decreased functioning of the endothelium is a genetic condition called Fuchs Dystrophy. The treatment is typically a partial thickness corneal transplant called a DMEK or DSEK. In this video, Dr. Brian Shafer discusses the process for a corneal transplant at SVI.
