Volume IV of The Commonplace Book of Joshua Humphreys

Описание к видео Volume IV of The Commonplace Book of Joshua Humphreys

From the pre-release of The Creative Art of Wishfulness to my officially becoming an old man, Volume IV of my Commonplace Book contains the reading notes from my last 16 months of travel, work, & study.

In a year slated for the writing of a history of Ancient Greece and atrophied by covid massteria it's no surprise that 'The Greeks' and 'Freedom' are by far the most frequently mentioned subjects—followed by 'Art', 'Life', & 'Writing', then 310 subjects besides.

Friedrich Nietzsche and Bertrand Russell—two philosophers whose work & outlook could hardly be more different—are the most frequently cited authors, followed by John Ruskin and Werner Jaeger, then 449 others.

Due to 4 and a half months in lockdown in New York, London, & Greece , Volume IV documents my most prolific reading year yet.

It contains 345 pages of quotations, excerpts, paintings, inscriptions, essays letters, emblems—epigraphs & epitaphs—poems and odes, declarations and decalogues...

And it is the exclusive privilege of The New Cavalier Reading Society.
