Love De Luxe ~ Here Comes That Sound Again 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

It's a Sunday night and the knowledge of being off tomorrow got me jonesing for some summer disco. I looked it up and found out that this was the #1 disco tune this week forty years ago this week, August 18, 1979. Man do I remember the rush to the floor when this one came on. This tune was a disco wonder, all sixteen minutes of it. Most clubs did not play the whole song, mixing in and out from intro to one of the many instrumental breaks. The US artist listed is "Love De-Luxe with Hawkshaw's Discophonia" but the release is an exact copy of the UK original titled "Again & Again" by Love De-Luxe. This was fairly common back in da day, the UK or Spain or France had a hit disco album and then the marketing execs started earning some money, turning the release into something the US would eat up. In this case, Hawkshaw, a Brit who created music to be used in advertising was the driving force behind the group. I already own his work from the 60's with Keith Mansfield, really good and collectable. The vocals on the Love De-Luxe song were handled by Jo-Ann Stone, Vicki Brown and Gene Chandler who also vocalized on Gonzalez (I Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet) and Olympic Runners (Keep It Up) records. "Here Comes That Sound Again" spent one week at the pinnacle of disco fever during the summer of 1979. Legendary DJ remixer Jim Burgess did an 8:50 disco 12" edit of it, but I used the original LP version, took out several looong instrumental parts, added one more chorus in the middle to keep the momentum going to the break and then the finish. Lots of ear candy here, particularly that "boo" sound from a synthesized drum you also hear in Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" which became a disco hallmark.
