People's Artist of the Republic of Tajikistan Mamadnazar Hotamov (08.03.1916 - 06.2006)

Mamadnazar Khotamov
Village of Barrushon, Rushon District, People's Artist of Tajikistan.

He was born into a family of singers. In 1933, at the invitation of Marvatsho Bandishozoda, he became a member of the club in Rushon district and started working there. In 1938, after his mentor Marvatsho Bandishoev moved to the regional theater, Mamadnazar was appointed as the head of the central district club in Rushon. Mamadnazar Hotamov made a significant contribution to the creation of the Pamir Ethnographic Ensemble. He also became the head of the club and gathered talented artists.

In 1941, in the Village of Literature and Arts of the Tajiks in Moscow, he worked as a ballet master and participated in the staging of dances. From 1948 to 1950, he held the position of director of the dramatic musical theater in the city of Khorog. In 1950, due to family circumstances, he returned to his village and was appointed as the head of the Barrushon village club, where he worked until 1955.

Later, he was invited to Dushanbe and became the ballet master of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Pamirs in the State Philharmonic of Tajikistan, where he worked from 1955 to 1960. From 1950 to 1960, he also served as the director of the dramatic musical theater in Khorog. In 1961, he returned to Rushon and contributed to the establishment of the People's Theater. He worked as the director of the People's Theater of Rushon District from its establishment in 1961 until 1976, after which he retired.

During his creative career, Mamadnazar Hotamov developed and staged more than 250 group and solo dances, dance and music suites, and literary and musical compositions.

This video is a personal tribute to the People's Artist of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mamadnazar Hotamov.
His grandson, Amin Mamadnazarov, brought together voice, music, and a single archival image to preserve the memory of his grandfather and pass it on to future generations.
