We took a classic day trip out of Lagos and hopped on the train to visit Silves, the ancient Moorish capital of the Algarve!
This beautiful, sleepy town is dominated by its impressive red-sandstone Moorish Castle (Castelo de Silves). We explore the massive walls, which were once the greatest military stronghold in the region, and walk through the historic, cobbled town that sits on the banks of the Arade River. Seeing the castle and walking the streets offered a completely different, historic side of the Algarve away from the beaches.
The trip was a great success, proving that the train is a simple and cheap way to dive deep into Portugal's history, even from the coast! This video is great for search traffic looking for non-beach Algarve activities. #Algarve #portugal #retirement
