Episode 9 - MARQUETTE MARITIME MUSEUM 🇺🇸

Come take a tour of the Marquette Maritime Museum and Lighthouse. This Lake Superior Circle Tour was lucky to have a guided tour with the Director of the Museum, Hilary Billman. The museum houses many wonderful exhibits and heroic stories related to safety and rescue on Lake Superior. Some of the displays include the history of the U.S. Life Saving Service and U.S. Coast Guard, information and artifacts from several shipwrecks including the Edmund Fitzgerald, local history of iron ore mining and shipping, lighthouses and much, much more.

There is a special section, the McClintock Annex that focusses on the submarines USS Dace and USS Darter that fought against the Japanese in the battle of Leyte Gulf, in WWII. It is named after Captain David McClintock, USN Retired, A Marquette native and commander of the Darter.

The Marquette Maritime Museum and Lighthouse is non-profit and holds several community events including several day and evening tours. There are occasional specialty tours such as “Ghosts of Lighthouse Point”. Visitors claim to have seen the ghost of a little girl wearing a dress from the early 1900’s looking out the window over Lake Superior. Other related stories during tours such as feeling her breath on your neck will make your hair stand on end but, you will have to visit on your own to experience and hear these mysterious stories in detail.
