DESIGN CONCEPT
BUGLAS
To cut off or to separate. Negros Island was originally called “Buglas”, an old native word that is thought to mean “cut-off.” It is believed that Negros was once part of a greater mass of land but was cut off either by what geologists all a continental drift or by rising waters during the so-called glacial age. As a result of the division that occurred in Negros many years ago, this structure aims to gather and unite people. A point of convergence that will relive the past and create a future through gathering, meeting, and unification. Manifesting Negros Occidental's "separation" history with the goal of uniting the people. The necessity to integrate historically the meaning of "buglas" into the consciousness and memory of the province of Negros Occidental.

The concept employs neobrutalist architecture, which emphasizes the bare building material and structural elements over decorative designs. The style is characterized by exposed, unpainted concrete, angular geometric shapes, and a monochrome color palette. Additionally, tempered glass was used.
The design concept is applied through the use of diverse architectural styles, which embody the essence of "separation" due to their uniqueness, but through their application and utilization that embodies relation, a cultural and convention center that celebrates connection and unity is formed.
