Current eruption
This eruptive phase began on December 26, 2025, and has included intermittent lava fountaining, lava effusion, and ash emissions from Etna’s summit craters. Activity levels fluctuate, with periods of increased explosivity followed by quieter intervals—behavior typical of Etna.

Lava flows have primarily moved toward the Valle del Bove, a broad depression on the eastern flank that frequently channels eruptive activity away from nearby communities. Ash plumes and incandescent ejecta may be visible depending on wind direction, weather, and lighting conditions.

Aviation & monitoring
Volcanic ash emissions have prompted aviation advisories at times, and flight operations at Catania Airport may experience delays during heightened activity. Italian authorities and volcanological institutes continue close monitoring using seismic, thermal, and satellite data.

Where is this camera?

The wonderful family at Petra Nìura Winery Lodge are graciously hosting our camera at their winery. You can experience this same view in person by staying at their beautiful vacation rental and wake up to the sights and sounds of famous Etna Volcano on the Island of Sicily! Here’s their website: https://petraniuraetna.com/. The camera is about 11km away from The Peak of Mount Etna Volcano.

This camera is at an elevation of 515m and is looking Northwest towards the Southeast Crater. Just behind the Southeast crater is a partial view of the Northeast crater Just in front of the Southeast Crater is a large valley known as the Valle del Bove. The valley to the right is known as Valle del Leone
