On September 11, 1683, the Ottoman Turkish army led by Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa besieged the Austrian capital of Vienna for 2 months. Kara Mustafa’s goal was to take Vienna and then enter Europe and water her horse in St Peter’s Square. The imposing Ottoman army was stopped by the Polish king Jan Sobieski who personally led his winged hussars and defeated the Ottoman army and saved Vienna, stopping the Ottoman expansion into Europe.
