For UK universities, should you get a student loan or pay the tuition fees upfront? This video explains why even for the few people who can afford to pay the tuition fees upfront, it is a better financial decision to make use of the excellent student finance/student loan system that we have in the UK. To simplify, this is as student debt gets wiped after 30 years in the UK if you haven’t paid it off, and the majority of graduates (75% don’t end up paying all the loan off). Even if you will be a high earner, and thus part of the group that does pay off all the loan, your money can get a greater return by being invested in the stock market (risk of losing money) through investing in broad market ETFs. At the end of the video, I run through the numbers in an example to prove how much better it is to take a student loan.
