What a horrible cover to have a curse….

Seriously, not only was this a complicated arrangement and my longest one yet, but I kept facing setback after setback. I recorded most of the lead guitar lines only to discover that the intonation on my guitar was off causing everything to sound out of tune, so I had to re-record all of that. I tried to record video one day only to discover that the battery in my camera was dead, so that day was pretty much a bust. Recorded video the next day only to discover that the footage looked terrible due to bad lighting and guitar being partially out of frame, so I wanted to re-record that. People say that this stuff gets easier the longer you do it, but I’m still waiting for that to happen.

Complaining aside, I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. Aria of Sorrow is one of my favorite games in the Castlevania series, and I still remember this tune from the Julius Belmont boss fight and thinking it was such a cool callback to the original Castlevania when the familiar Heart of Fire part kicked in. The first half of the track is actually from a tune in the original Haunted Castle arcade game called Don’t Wait Until Night and I guess Michiru Yamane had the idea to mash that one up with Heart of Fire, which worked out really well! I took inspiration from both the Aria of Sorrow version and the Harmony of Despair/Smash Bros. version, combining my favorite ideas from both of those as well as including some of my own.
