it's probably no secret that Taipei is one of my
very favorite cities in the world to travel to
but if you wonder what keeps me
wanting to go back over and over again,
I think a big reason is probably how easy it is to
make the most amazing day trips when staying there.
I can't even count how many wonderful
things I've seen and experienced
just around this beautiful city.
I'm very excited for you to join me today
on three of the most magical day
trips to make when staying in Taipei.

We just arrived in Jiufen
and this is my my third time in
Jiufen actually, I really like it here
but it's the first time I'm
coming early in the morning
so I'm excited to see Jiufen kind of waking up
I think most stores are still closed
and I did get out one stop higher than usual
because the view up there is amazing
and also we're passing this beautiful
temple here so that's why I got out earlier.
It's still very early,
but it smells so good already so I can't wait
for everything to open to try all the food here.
My first stop was the famous
traditional Amei Tea House.
You often need to wait quite a while
to get a good seat here at night,
so going earlier was great to enjoy
the view for as long as I wished for.
There's a whole science behind tea.
I feel like in Belgium we just buy a tea
bag, put boiling water on it, nothing more
but here for example, there's even thought
that goes into the warming of the cups
and then you can also smell
it, that's really cool.
In the afternoon, my friend Eline joined me and
we climbed up in the little streets of Jiufen
to meet up with an artist named Javi Kuo,
that we have known and admired for a while.
He showed us his favorite
painting spot in all of Jiufen.
How many years have you been painting?
Seven
And what made you decide to start painting?
I don't know
maybe, my heart is telling me.
I think if you live in Taiwan you
get a lot of inspiration to paint?
Do you want to paint with me?
I have some brush for you.
I think we can add some blue color here.
What do you think?
Yes, that's a great idea. Okay
I want just to connect with the mountain.
One of the reasons Jiufen became popular,
is its resemblance to the world
of Spirited Away from Miyazaki.

Especially at night, when all the lanterns
are on, the atmosphere becomes magical.
We tried several of the food stands in the
famous Jiufen Old Street and really loved it.

Since the weather forecast was rainy this morning,

I wanted to visit a trendy coffee shop that
was located in Yangmingshan National Park.
but we actually arrived at
the Juansi Waterfall bus stop
We didn't go too far on our waterfall
hike because the rain started intensifying
but we did have the satisfaction of seeing
one very beautiful waterfall at least.
And then afterwards, we tried to find our
way to the very well hidden coffee shop.
I ordered milk tea of course
and we had to pay like 250 NTD
entrance fee in this coffee shop
but you can also have a drink with
that and the view is super nice
so I think it might be worth it.
One thing that I really love about Taiwan,
is actually all the options you
get when it comes to milk tea
because in Belgium, usually,
if you go to coffee shop
you're already very lucky if you
find just chai latte on the menu
and here in Taiwan you have at
least like 15 options on this menu
so I think that's one of the reasons
that Taiwan is really a country for me.
so I have no problem waiting 13 minutes here.
Since the weather cleared up in the afternoon,
we decided to visit another very
special part of the Beitou district
and that is the Beitou Hot Springs Valley.

My sister and I are big lovers of sunrises
so even though it can perfectly be
a day trip to go to Sun Moon Lake,
we decided to arrive one night earlier
and stay at a local hostel to witness
the sunrise at the Wenwu Temple.

and I think it takes about 3 hours
to do the whole tour of the lake
and at the same time you get to
see such beautiful scenic spots
so that's something you don't have to miss.
The thing that I anticipated
most around the Sun Moon Lake,
was climbing up a hill to go the Ci'en pagoda.
