History of आदि हिमानी चामुण्डा मंदिर

Aadi Himani Chamunda is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shri Chamunda Devi, situated in Chandar Bhan, Jia in Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India, in the Himalayas.

Aadi Himani Chamunda Temple (3185 meters) is located on a hilltop North East to the existing Shri Chamunda Devi Mandir in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. One can reach there after hiking about 13 Kilometers from Dharamshala Palampur state Highway (Jadrangal Village) and 8.5 Kilometers from the last motor able road at Kardiana. The trek to Aadi Himani Chamunda Devi requires about 6–7 hours and moderate expertise is required.

Devotees visit the sacred shrine throughout the year except winters. As per locals goddess Shri Chamunda Devi killed two demons Chand and Mund from the top of the mountain by throwing huge boulders on them, one can still find one of the boulder above the Shiva Temple located near existing Shri Chamunda Devi Temple on Dharamshala Palampur state highway. The recent temple build in past decade was destroyed by the fierce fire in 2014 and now it has been under reconstruction again by the help of devotees and Temple Trust. The water is available till the half way and after that pilgrims need to carry their own. One can also find tea shops cum resting location multiple times till the hilltop temple.

Let us tell you how we started our journey from chamunda devi temple to himani chamunda trek.

We started the trek from Jadrangal. First we got to collect information about himani chamunda complete yatra. We walked around 4 to 5 KM to reach starting point of himani chamunda. Trek to himani chamunda is very difficult and dangerous. There are so many places for trekking in himachal pradesh and himani chamunda is one of the best weekend trek for beginners.

We face so many difficulties like lose your way, insufficiency of water, dangerous roads, etc. When we reached aadi himani chamunda mata, we felt mesmerized after seen the beauty, the vibe and positive people.

We took a bite of devotee to know the history of mata himani chamunda devi. We did dancing with some people on himachali folk songs. We attended the bhajan mandali and spent some time with all of them. After that, we gone to sleep.

Next morning, we awake at 6:00 AM. We did Sadhna for a while. Then we attended morning Aarti of maa chamunda devi. After that we met a lot of people and said goodbye.
