💠 Talk: How to Reclaim Your Self-connection and Boundaries in Relationships with Emotionally Immature People

💠 Description:
We each come to our remothering work having traveled a different path. And while the remothering work is about us and future us, sometimes it can be helpful to look at the roots of our adaptations. Not as a report card on the parenting we did or did not receive, but rather as a tool for understanding ourselves with greater self-compassion.

💠 If a part of your personal history includes being raised by an emotionally immature parent, this talk is for you. Dr. Gibson gives language to the very real experience of growing up without emotional attunement. Simply having language in and of itself is incredibly healing. Then, with that language as the foundation, she offers eye-opening insights into why setting boundaries with EIPs is so challenging.


💠 Being raised by an emotionally immature parent (EIP) creates patterns and styles of interacting with others that are often below the level of everyday consciousness.

💠 Our early environment trained us to put other people’s emotional stability ahead of our own. And since it was the air we were breathing, we learned it automatically (implicitly), without even realizing there is another way to do things.

💠 We were programmed to be overly accommodating (along with many other understandable impacts). Which all makes sense given our early environment.
