Dr. Peter Brukner OAM is a specialist sports and exercise physician, Professor of Sports Medicine at La Trobe University, and founding partner of the Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne. A pioneer in Australian sports medicine, he co-founded the Australasian College of Sports Physicians and served two terms as its President. Peter has been team doctor for elite sports teams including the Australian cricket team (2012–2017), Liverpool FC, and the Socceroos at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He is also co-author of the landmark textbook Clinical Sports Medicine.
Beyond sports, Peter is a leading voice in public health. He co-founded the SugarByHalf campaign and created the Defeat Diabetes Program—an app-based initiative promoting dietary change to reverse type 2 diabetes. His books include the bestseller A Fat Lot of Good and The Diabetes Plan.
He was awarded a Doctor of Science (honoris causa) by La Trobe University in 2022, received the 2023 Vicsport Outstanding Contribution to Sport award, and was named 2025 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria.
