The Village Tradition Amongst The Village Men: Planting Yams 🇫🇯

It is yam season in the village. In navuti village the yam season is a big tradition between the village men. This is something the men do every year. The men go out in the morning to plant yams and come back in the afternoon when they are done. They eat in the community hall where the village women serve them lunch and in the late afternoon and early evening they drink grog to end the day.

The village men say if you don't have any yams when it is Christmas time that means that you are a girl and Christmas is also the period where the village men can showcase their yams to the public and to the villagers. This video is about showcasing the process of planting the yam and how much of hard work the village men go through during this period of the yam season.
