Local leaders in Seattle are voicing strong opposition to President Donald Trump's recent decision to take control of Washington D.C.'s police department and deploy the National Guard to the capital.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell criticized the move, suggesting it is a distraction from the president's unfulfilled campaign promises.

"We're not perfect, but no city is," said Harrell, acknowledging ongoing issues with crime and homelessness in Seattle.

However, he emphasized that Seattle is making progress, noting that violent and property crime rates are declining, according to Seattle police data.
