Paddle and Anvil: A Piipaash Pottery Tradition

Описание к видео Paddle and Anvil: A Piipaash Pottery Tradition

In conjunction with the 58th Annual Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market, the Guild and the museum commissioned a documentary on Maricopa (Piipaash) pottery traditions. The film was produced by Steven Yazzie (Navajo) with Piipaash potter Ron Carlos demonstrating pottery making. Ron Carlos creates pottery from all natural materials using the paddle and anvil method. All clays and pigments are hand dug and processed by Carlos and other family members. The film chronicles the process from digging the clay to firing the pot and provides insight into the time intensive process of Native pottery techniques.
